The Mountain Quarries Railroad Bridge—better known as “No Hands Bridge”—was built in 1912 and was once the longest concrete arch railroad bridge in the world. Originally constructed to carry limestone from the nearby quarry to Auburn, it operated until 1941, when the tracks were removed for the war effort. Its nickname comes either from its early days without handrails or from riders crossing it “no hands” during the Tevis Cup. Today, it stands as a striking historic landmark along the Western States Trail, just a short walk from the Hwy 49 crossing.
